The Spathiphyllum Platinum Mist, also known as the Platinum Mist Peace Lily, is a unique cultivar of the popular Peace Lily plant (Spathiphyllum species). This Spathiphyllum has extremely unique leaves, they’re silvery-white in color. While they currently do not have any blooms at the moment, they will bloom if given the right lighting conditions. They typically bloom spring-fall.
- Botanical Name: Spathiphyllum ‘Platinum Mist’
- Common Names: Peace Lily, Platinum Mist
Here are some key features and care tips for the Spathiphyllum Platinum Mist:
- Appearance: The Platinum Mist Peace Lily features glossy, dark green leaves with striking silver variegation. The variegation adds a touch of elegance and uniqueness to the plant’s overall appearance. Like other Peace Lilies, it produces white flowers on long stalks, although the variegated foliage is the main attraction of this cultivar.
- Light Requirements: Platinum Mist Peace Lilies prefer bright, indirect light. While they can tolerate lower light conditions, they may not develop as vibrant variegation in dimly lit areas. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.
- Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season (spring and summer), watering when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Use room temperature water and avoid overwatering, as Peace Lilies are sensitive to waterlogged soil. In winter, reduce watering frequency slightly.
- Soil: Plant Platinum Mist Peace Lilies in a well-draining potting mix that retains moisture without becoming waterlogged. A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite or coconut coir works well. Ensure that the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from pooling at the bottom.
- Temperature and Humidity: Platinum Mist Peace Lilies prefer temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C to 27°C). They can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures but should be protected from drafts and cold air. While they appreciate moderate humidity, they can adapt to average indoor humidity levels.
- Fertilizing: Feed Platinum Mist Peace Lilies with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to fertilizer burn and damage the plant.
- Flowering: Like other Peace Lilies, Platinum Mist varieties may produce white flowers in spring and sporadically throughout the year under optimal conditions. However, the primary attraction of this cultivar is its variegated foliage rather than its blooms.
- Propagation: Platinum Mist Peace Lilies can be propagated by division. When repotting, carefully separate the plant into smaller sections, each with roots attached. Plant the divisions in separate pots with fresh potting mix.
- Pests and Diseases: Platinum Mist Peace Lilies are relatively resistant to pests and diseases. However, they may occasionally attract common houseplant pests such as spider mites or aphids. Inspect the plant regularly and treat any infestations promptly.
Overall, the Spathiphyllum Platinum Mist is a stunning and elegant houseplant that adds visual interest and sophistication to any indoor space. With proper care, it can thrive and provide enjoyment for years to come.
