This peperomia variety is much like most peperomias as they are very easy to care for and its deep jade oval-shaped leaves retain much of its water. These evergreen, sometimes succulent houseplants may be either rosette-forming or erect with trailing stems. Though peperomia produce greenish- white, panicle-like flower spikes, they are grown primarily for their foliage.
- Botanical Name: Peperomia
- Common Names: Glabella, Cypress Peperomia
Here’s some information about Peperomia ‘Glabella’:
- Appearance: Peperomia ‘Glabella’ features glossy, heart-shaped leaves that are typically dark green with prominent veins. The leaves have a slightly succulent texture and grow in a dense rosette form. The plant remains relatively small, making it suitable for tabletops, shelves, or terrariums.
- Light: Provide Peperomia ‘Glabella’ with bright, indirect light for optimal growth. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but too little light may result in leggy growth and reduced vibrancy of foliage. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.
- Temperature: Peperomia ‘Glabella’ thrives in temperatures ranging from 65-75°F (18-24°C). It prefers moderate humidity levels and temperatures, so it may benefit from occasional misting or placement near a humidifier.
- Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly. Peperomia ‘Glabella’ is sensitive to overwatering, so it’s essential to avoid keeping the soil consistently wet. Water less frequently during the winter months when growth slows down.
- Soil: Plant Peperomia ‘Glabella’ in a well-draining potting mix. A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and coarse sand or orchid bark works well. Ensure that the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogged soil, which can lead to root rot.
- Fertilization: Feed Peperomia ‘Glabella’ with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can cause salt buildup in the soil.
- Propagation: Peperomia ‘Glabella’ can be propagated from stem cuttings. Simply snip a healthy stem with several leaves attached, allow the cut end to callus for a day or two, then plant it in moist potting soil or water until roots develop.
- Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests such as spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Peperomia ‘Glabella’ is relatively resistant to diseases but can develop fungal issues if overwatered.
- Pruning: Trim back leggy or damaged stems to maintain the plant’s compact shape and encourage bushier growth. Regular pruning also helps remove any dead or yellowing foliage and keeps the plant looking tidy.
Peperomia ‘Glabella’ is a charming and low-maintenance plant that adds a touch of greenery to any indoor space. With its glossy leaves and straightforward care requirements, it’s an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced plant enthusiasts.
