Pothos is a popular trailing houseplant that belongs to the Araceae family and is native to Southeast Asia. This Pothos shows off dark green leaves irregularly variegated with lighter green centers. It can grow up to 20 feet long in the wild but typically reaches 6 to 10 feet in indoor settings. The plant is easy to care for and can tolerate low light, but it prefers bright, indirect light. Pothos is a fast-growing plant that can be propagated easily from stem cuttings. It also has air-purifying qualities, making it a great addition to any home or office. In addition to its common names, it is also known as the “cubicle plant” as it is a popular choice for office spaces.
- Botanical Name: Epipremnum aureum ‘Global Green’
- Common Name(s): Global Green Pothos, Devil’s Ivy, Hunter’s Robe, Ivy Arum
Here are some care tips to help you maintain a healthy and vibrant Pothos Global Green:
- Light: Pothos Global Green thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate low light conditions. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves. If growing in low light, the plant may grow more slowly and have less variegation.
- Watering: Allow the top inch or so of soil to dry out between waterings. Pothos prefers slightly moist soil but is tolerant of occasional drying out. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it’s essential to avoid soggy soil.
- Soil: Plant your Pothos Global Green in well-draining potting soil. A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and/or coarse sand works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating at the roots.
- Temperature: Pothos prefers temperatures between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Avoid exposing it to cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C), as it can damage the plant.
- Humidity: Pothos Global Green can tolerate average indoor humidity levels but benefits from occasional misting, especially in dry environments. This can help prevent the leaf tips from drying out.
- Fertilization: Feed your Pothos Global Green with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing in winter or if the plant is not actively growing.
- Pruning: Regularly prune your Pothos Global Green to promote bushy growth and maintain its shape. Trim leggy stems and remove any yellow or dead leaves. You can propagate the cuttings to create new plants.
- Propagation: Pothos Global Green is easily propagated from stem cuttings. Simply cut a healthy stem below a node (where a leaf attaches to the stem) and place it in water or moist potting soil until roots develop.
- Pests: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. If pests are present, gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth or treat the plant with insecticidal soap.
- Potting and Repotting: Repot your Pothos Global Green when it outgrows its current pot or becomes root-bound. Choose a slightly larger pot with drainage holes and fresh potting soil.
With proper care, your Pothos Global Green will continue to thrive, adding beauty and greenery to your indoor space!
