If you are a fan of pothos plants there’s a new and exciting variety that you’ll definitely want to get your hands on: the lemon meringue pothos (Epipremnum aureum ‘Lemon Meringue’). It was recently discovered by Costa Farms as a sport mutation of the global green pothos and features small green leaves that are variegated with bright, golden yellow.

    • Botanical Name: Epipremnum aureum ‘Lemon Meringue’
    • Common Names: Lemon meringue pothos

Here are some care tips to help you keep your Pothos Lemon Meringue healthy and thriving:

  1. Light: Provide bright, indirect light for your Pothos Lemon Meringue to maintain its vibrant coloration. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, brighter light will enhance the intensity of its lemony-green leaves. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the foliage.
  2. Watering: Allow the top inch or so of soil to dry out between waterings. Pothos Lemon Meringue prefers slightly moist soil but is tolerant of occasional drying out. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. Adjust your watering frequency based on environmental conditions and the plant’s growth stage.
  3. Soil: Plant your Pothos Lemon Meringue in well-draining potting mix. A mix containing peat moss, perlite, and/or coarse sand works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from pooling at the roots.
  4. Temperature: Pothos Lemon Meringue thrives in typical indoor temperatures ranging from 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Avoid exposing it to cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
  5. Humidity: While Pothos Lemon Meringue can tolerate average indoor humidity levels, it appreciates slightly higher humidity. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves occasionally or placing a humidifier nearby, especially during dry winter months.
  6. Fertilization: Feed your Pothos Lemon Meringue with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing in winter or if the plant is not actively growing.
  7. Pruning: Regularly prune your Pothos Lemon Meringue to promote bushy growth and maintain its shape. Trim leggy stems and remove any yellow or dead leaves. You can propagate the cuttings to create new plants.
  8. Propagation: Pothos Lemon Meringue is easily propagated from stem cuttings. Simply cut a healthy stem below a node (where a leaf attaches to the stem) and place it in water or moist potting soil until roots develop.
  9. Pests: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. If pests are present, gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth or treat the plant with insecticidal soap.
  10. Potting and Repotting: Repot your Pothos Lemon Meringue when it outgrows its current pot or becomes root-bound. Choose a slightly larger pot with drainage holes and fresh potting mix.

With proper care, your Pothos Lemon Meringue will thrive and add a refreshing pop of lemony-green to your indoor space!
